Now I'll tell you why they came for me specifically. It wasn't the accusations. Those were the weapon. Not the reason.

The reason was the catalog.

In 1985, I purchased the ATV catalog. You know what was in it? The Beatles. Little Richard. The Everly Brothers. Thousands of songs. I owned them. Me. A Black man from Gary, Indiana owned the most valuable collection of music in history.

They never forgave me for that.

You have to understand... the catalog wasn't just music. It was power. Real power. Cultural power. Financial power. Generational power. Power that was never supposed to be in my hands. Power that was supposed to stay in their boardrooms, their family trusts, their private offices with no nameplate on the door.

When I bought that catalog, I broke an unwritten rule. The rule that says... artists perform. They don't own. Artists entertain. They don't acquire. Artists shine. They don't accumulate power. The moment I crossed that line... the countdown started.

Everything that happened after 1985... every accusation, every headline, every humiliation... was a systematic campaign to weaken me until I had no choice but to sell. They wanted the catalog back. They needed the catalog back. And they were willing to destroy the most famous man on earth to get it.
